I am an emotional creature; the secret life of girls around the world. By Eve Ensler.
I just read an excerpt of her book and watched a monologue she gave about it..I can’t take her out of my mind, such a powerful message, i had to share it. It made me sad and hopeful at the same time, sad for the girls whose lives have been shattered by mutilation, wars, society, rapes…it made me hopeful for the girls who made it through, for the girls who had enough courage in them to stand up, enough “girl” in them to let the world know they exist and won’t give up. We are girls, we are emotional, deal with it.
“Girls today often find themselves in a struggle between remaining strong and true to themselves and conforming to society’s expectations in an attempt to please. They are taught not to be too intense, too passionate, too smart, too caring, too open. They are encouraged to shut down their instincts, their outrage, their desires and their dreams, to be polite, to obey the rules. I Am an Emotional Creature is a celebration of the authentic voice inside every girl and an inspiring call to action for girls everywhere to speak up, follow their dreams, and become the women they were always meant to be.”
Eve Ensler has given hope to young girls around the world, a feminist, playwriter, activist, she is best known for “The vagina monologues”, and the global movement she created V-Day, to stop violence against women and girls.
I am an emotional creature is a call, an education, an act of empowerment for girls, and an illumination for parents and for us all.
